Maintenance Methods for the Construction Machinery Track

Track is widely used in construction machinery and are a part of walking devices.

Due to the fact that construction is generally carried out in harsh environments. Loose, damaged, and broken tracks are inevitable faults.

What are the causes of track damage?
Driving on uneven roads

When construction machinery carry out earthwork engineering, the working site is generally uneven. In such terrain conditions, if the walking route is improper, the weight of the body will lean towards the local area. An increase in local pressure can cause certain damage to the track and lead to loosening issues.

Improper operation during turning

When turning, one side of the track moves while the other side of the track remains stationary, resulting in significant rotational motion. If the track is obstructed by a raised part on the ground, it will get stuck on the rotating side of the track, and the track is easily pulled.

Long term walking operation

Tracked machinery should not travel for too long, otherwise it will not only cause great damage to the tracks, but also affect the service life of the equipment.

Failure to timely clean the gravel in the track

During work or movement, some gravel or soil may enter the tracks. If not cleared in time before walking, gravel and other debris will be squeezed between the drive wheel, guide wheel, and track as the track rotates. Over time, it can cause the tracks to loosen and even lead to chain rail breakage.

The parking is not reasonable enough

Tracked machinery must be parked on a flat surface. If it is uneven, it will cause uneven force on the track. The track on one side bears a large weight and is easily pulled or cracked due to stress concentration.

How to maintain the tracks?

1. When a roller that cannot operate due to a malfunction is found, it should be repaired in a timely manner

If there is a situation where some top rollers or bottom rollers cannot continue to operate. Continuing to use in such a state may cause roller wear deviation and even lead to wear of the track chain link. So when encountering such situations, please make sure to repair them immediately.

2. Avoid mechanical equipment moving on sloping ground or suddenly turning

Repeated walking and sudden turning on sloping ground for a long time can cause the side of the track chain link to come into contact with the side of the drive sprocket and guide idler, resulting in increased wear and tear. Therefore, during the homework process, it is advisable to choose straight and large turns as much as possible to effectively prevent excessive wear and tear.

3. Regularly inspect and reinforce bolts and nuts to effectively reduce wear and tear

After prolonged work, components such as track rollers, track shoe bolts, sprocket bolts, and walking piping bolts are easily loosened due to vibration. If the equipment continues to operate with loose track shoe bolts, it may create a gap between the bolts and the track shoes. This leads to cracks in the track shoes. The generation of gaps may also increase the bolt holes between the track shoe and track chain link. Unable to tighten it, resulting in the need to replace the track shoes and track chains.
